OEKO-TEX , Association or Quality Research on Softline: Effective April 1, 2020, new regulations are in place to enhance product quality and consumer safety.

The main changes are as follows:

1. Add new substances to the restricted catalog

Therefore, STANDARD 100 includes:

– The carcinogenic N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosables substances

– The herbicide glyphosate and its salts

– Specific limits of the toxic heavy metals arsenic and mercury

LEATHER STANDARD includes:

– The carcinogenic N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosables substances

– Specific limits of the toxic heavy metals arsenic and mercury

2. Leather goods are included in the Made in Green certification

Since 2019, the leather production facility has been included in the sustainable textile and leather production (STeP) certification and from 2020 it is now possible to test for hazardous substances in accordance with leather standards. Products marked MADE IN GREEN therefore mean that these products were produced in environmentally friendly facilities in socially acceptable workplaces according to STeP.

3. Mandatory DETOX TO ZERO in STeP certification

STeP certified companies that use large amounts of water and chemicals are required to comply with the manufacturing restrictions in the Zero Hazardous Chemical Emissions Program.
