The new NOM-001-SCFI-2018, replacing NOM-001-SCFI-1993, will go into effect on May 14, 2020. This sets the safety requirements that electronic equipment manufactured, imported, commercialized and distributed in Mexico must meet.
The safety requirements are for the following purposes.
– Protection against electric shock
– Protection against mechanical hazards
– Protection against optical radiation
– Fire protection
– Protection against thermal effects, and
– Protection against biological and chemical effects
NOM-001-SCFI-2018 is applied to electronic equipment and accessories used for power supply of public services with a single-phase supply voltage of up to 277V AC at 60Hz and a three-phase voltage of up to 480V AC. Other energy sources such as alternative power supplies are also included.
