The Malta Department of Communications (MCA) has announced a modification to the “1.5 GHz band (1427-1517 MHz band) allocation process for terrestrial systems capable of providing telecommunication services in Malta.”

The goal is to set the allocation process to be adopted for the 1.5 GHz band as a condition to attach to the final usage rights.

As determined by the NFPCD, the MCA allows the allocation of 18 lots over the entire 1.5 GHz band, with a single lot consisting of individual slots with unpaired 5 MHz bandwidth.

This decision allows the 1.5 GHz band to be used for WBB Wireless Broadband Supplemental Downlink (SDL) services.

To complement the 1.5 GHz band harmonic measurement, the MCA made this decision. These measures are consistent with the national frequency plan adopted and published under the Telecommunications (Regulatory) Act.

After the decision is announced, market demands require that the MCA assign non-exclusive use of the spectrum without prejudice to other measures of law.
