Australia announces two new standards for toys.

1. Consumer Goods (Projectile Toys) Safety Standard 2020

2. Consumer Goods (Aquatic Toys) Safety Standard 2020

Consumer Goods (Projectile Toys) Safety Standard 2020 applies to toys that can launch projectiles for children under 14 years of age. According to the new standard requirements, toys must comply with the relevant voluntary Australian / New Zealand standards or the standards below.

  • EN 71-1:2014 + A1:2018 Safety of toys – Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties
  • ISO 8124.1:2018 Safety of toys Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties
  • ASTM F963-17 Standard consumer safety specification for toy safety

 

 

 

Consumer Goods (Aquatic Toys) Safety Standard 2020 applies to underwater toys used by children to support the weight of children under 14 years of age and to play in shallow water.

 

 

This standard does not apply to the following products.

– Beach balls

– Surfboards

– Bodyboards

– Kickboards

– Inflatable air beds

– Inflatable boats that are not toys or intended for use in deep water

 

 

According to the new standard requirements, toys must comply with one of the following standards:

  • AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2019 Safety of toys Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties
  • ISO 8124-1:2018 Safety of toys-Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties
