Product safety evaluation of A/V products and information technology equipment is carried out in accordance with two standards: IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1.

However, because there are many products that meet both standards, the IEC Technical Committee (TC 108) “Safety of electronic equipment in the fields of A/v, IT and telecommunications technology” has addressed the IEC 62368-1 standard covering both IEC 62368 – A/V and IT equipment.

Unfortunately, the scope of IEC 62368-1 differs greatly from IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1. Therefore, it is difficult to simply merge these standards and have the manufacturer reevaluate the product. Due to this fact, the date of entry into force of IEC 62368-1 was discussed for some time and agreed to December 2020. By this date, the IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065 standards are expected to be withdrawn and products falling within the scope of IEC 62368-1 must comply with the requirements of the new standard.

Manufacturers must now take action to comply with the requirements of IEC 62368-1 by December 2020.

However, not all countries around the world have yet adopted IEC 62368-1, which is very important for manufacturers who want to offer their products according to two national standards.

As a result, countries around the world adopt the requirements of IEC 62368-1 step by step.

Therefore, the Emirates Standardization Organization (ESMA) recently issued new guidelines for the regulation of A/V and IT/communication technology equipment. Above all, this document states that, starting from December 2020, all A/V and IT/communication equipment must comply with the IEC 62368-1 standard and have a valid certificate of conformity issued in accordance with ECAS / EQM.

Due to this issue, it is expected that by December 2020, certificates of conformity issued in accordance with IEC 60065 and / or IEC 60950-1 standards will no longer be valid.
