From December 20, 2020, ITE and AV equipment manufacturers will be required to comply with the new product safety standard IEC 62368-1.
Reason for change
As technology evolves, the boundary between the IEC 60065 (AV equipment) and IEC 60950-1 (IT equipment) of multimedia products becomes unclear, and the new “risk” that integrates these two standards and includes both electronic equipment and IT / communication technology.
IEC62368-1 applies not only to the filan product, but also to to components and subsystems such as power suplies.
Product types covered by this standard
– Telecommunication products such as network infrastructure equipment, cordless and cell phones, and similar communication devices, including battery-powered devices
– Displays and display units including monitors, TVs and digital projectors
– Consumer electronics such as amplifiers, home theater systems, digital cameras and personal music playes
– Office appliances like copiers and document shredders
– Various other types of audio / video, information and communication technology equipment used in homes, schools, data processing centers, commercial, and professional environments.
Manufacturer impact
From Deceomber 20, 2020, manufacturers lookking to bring their products to market must comply with new standards with all regulations in mind.
Manufacturers with products already on the European market can continue to sell those products if the DoC was issued before 20 December 2020. If a manufacturer intends to modify a previously certified product according to 60950-1 or 60065-1, DoC is no longer valid, and new testing and certification according to the new standard is mandatory.
